I particularly like the Marikei Porcelain Hatbox which is wrapped in a matching Zaarni Organza Wrap Circle with Ribbon. I think it would make a beautiful wedding favor and it also makes an eye-catching table decoration too!

At the reception hall, fill baskets in the bathroom with miniature hand lotions, breath mints, hair sprays, and hair gels for emergency touch-ups. You may also want to put out a basket with a few inexpensive pairs of pantyhose and
some clear nail polish.

Halloween Wedding Tips

I was amused to read a story about a couple who chose to say "I Boo" at their Halloween Wedding in Moundsville, West Virginia at the weekend. According to wtov9.com Alvin and Carol Stillwell exchanged their vows in full Halloween costumes and their friends and family followed the Halloween theme with their wedding attire too - there were plenty of ghosts, witches and goblins cheering the couple on!

A lot of couples, like the Stillwell's, choose to get married on Halloween because it is their favorite holiday. It is certainly one way of ensuring your wedding is remembered for years to come as it is a very unique and wacky theme.

For those of you with a fun-loving nature and a penchant for all things Halloween why not consider it as your wedding theme? Think of the abundance of Halloween decorations there are available for you to use for your wedding if you chose this theme. You could host the wedding reception in a spooky mansion or castle and decorate it with pumpkin carvings, jack-o-lanterns, candelabras, plastic spiders, skulls, bats and eerie lighting. A bubbling cauldron (using a dry ice machine) would be sure to add a spooky atmosphere to the wedding reception and you could tie in the catering to match your Halloween theme (click here to read one bride's catering choices for her wedding including a Jell-O brain mould!). You could carry the Halloween theme all the way through your wedding planning from the wedding invitations down to the cake and favors - what fun! A black wedding dress is a popular choice for Halloween brides and their wedding party and you could choose dramatic blood red roses for your bouquet. The Modern Alternative To A Wedding Guest Book

i-vox, the leading brand of video diary rooms, were at Earls Court a few weeks ago collecting feedback from visitors to the National Wedding Show. It got a great response and visitors and exhibitors thought it was an innovative and fun way of capturing opinion.

The format of having a room to film yourself in rather than a feedback form is one that appealed to the show organisors so they can analyze what visitors really thought of the show, and not be confined to the boundaries of written questions.

Each week the editor Camilla Chafer picks out a horrific wedding dress she has found on the internet. It is amazing how many of the top gown designers can get it so wrong with some of their creations. The Five Key Steps To Correctly Planning A Wedding Tent

An outdoor wedding reception can be magical, whether it's on a breezy stretch of beach or under the stars in your back yard. It's essential though to have wedding tents set up properly for your guests' comfort and to shield against the elements in case of inclement weather.

Please bear these 5 key points in mind if you are considering using a wedding tent.

1. Size Matters

If you want a wedding tent to function properly for your event, make sure you know what size you really need. There are more than a few things to take into consideration when choosing the size of the tent:

♥ How many people will be attending?
♥ Will this be a buffet or a sit-down dinner?
♥ Will you need room for a dance floor and a band or DJ?
♥ How many tables will there be and what is there shape and size?

2. What is taking place in the tent?

Will the entire wedding take place under tents? If so, you will need room for not only the guests, but an alter area, a runner, and plenty of space for the bridal party as well as a separate area later for the dining and/or dancing. Don't make the mistake of thinking things can just be "rearranged" - it's too confusing and is a recipe for disaster.

3. What kind of tent?

Yes, there are different kinds of tents for weddings! The most traditional is the pole tent, which, by definition, is supported by individual poles beneath the fabric to give the tent its shape. Tension on ropes holds the roof in place. More recently, frame tents made of fabric over an aluminium or steel framework have become popular. These are more rigid and allow the tent to stand free without supports.

4. What your tent needs:

Now that you know a little bit about tents, you should delve a little bit deeper into the features. Talk to some tent rental companies in your area and ask about the different quality of tents available. A few things you should ask about include:

♥ The specification of the high-quality canvas material that should have been treated with a waterproofing material to resist rain.
♥ Wind resistance - you will want a tent with high wind resistance in the event of an unexpected squall.
♥ What are the support capabilities for running electrical to and through the tent for the lighting, DJ, bandstand, etc? Will the rental company provide electrical outlets, extension cords and other needs?
♥ Are there tents available with roll-up sides to allow the breeze through for ventilation? What about roll-up windows?
♥ Does the rental company include set-up and take-down in their price?

5. Decorating makes all the difference:

Once you've had a tent or series of tents set up for your wedding, don't leave them as "unfinished canvas." There are so many things you can do to add to the magic when you are working with tents! Simply wrapping the poles loosely in tulle, gauze or mesh netting in either white or a colour to match the wedding party will immediately soften the edges of the tent corners and add a hazy, dreamy effect to the "room."

Under the roof supports, string zigzag swags of fairy lights for a magical effect. For an even dreamier effect, twist the lights with netting or gauze to soften the effect. After dark these will look beautiful as they softly reflect light back down onto the party-goers. Another option is to twine artificial ivy or silk flowers around ropes and poles to create a garden bower feel. Or try suspending dozens of Chinese paper lanterns from the ceilings for a festive effect that will add a warm, colourful glow that you can repeat with Chinese paper fans and fortune cookies at each place setting. With a little imagination, your guests will forget they are in a tent and believe they have stepped into a fairytale!

OurGreenWeddingList.com - The Wedding List That Doesn't Cost The Earth

Here is a new wedding list site with a difference - OurGreenWeddingList.com - one that doesn't cost the earth!

This site encourages couples to have a greener wedding list and an environmentally friendly wedding day. So certainly not the list for those adamant they want a mahogany coffee table or patio heater!

To quote the site:

"Our Green Wedding List offers you environmentally considerate goods at comparable prices as an alternative to mass produced and environmentally damaging products. Some items (subscriptions to organic veggie box schemes) even enable you to start the first months of your married lives with an environmental outlook."

The products are sourced from UK based suppliers so as airmiles are reduced. Although Fair Trade goods are imported from beyond the UK. Products fall into a number of categories, namely Recycled, Craft/Artisan, Organic
Environmental benefit, Energy efficient, Made in the UK in an environmentally responsible way and Fair trade. In essence you will find the same type of products you would find on a traditional wedding list, but greener!

The site was set up this year after the founder Holly Long at Wedding List Giving Ltd had conversations with friends about green products 'not being as nice as conventional factory goods' and wanted to ask only for a few ethical gifts for her own wedding. Hitched.co.uk Has Chosen Ecclesiastical Insurance To Provide Wedding Insurance Policies Through Its Website

You may remember that back in July I wrote a comprehensive listing of all the best wedding insurance companies in the UK. Namely Confetti.co.uk, Debenhams, Ecclesiastical, Equine and Livestock Insurance Company Ltd, Event Insurance, Marks and Spencer, MRL Insurance Direct, and Wedding Plan Insurance. If you missed it, here is a link to it along with a link to the 11 golden reasons all couples should have wedding insurance. I know I'm biased but I do highly recommend it because instead of having to visit each insurer's website you now only have to visit one page. There are in depth descriptions of all the different types of covers offered and links to the policy documents, how to order online, company details, ownership facts, and links to the underwriters with notes on their regulations. I have tried to make it as easy as possible for every bride and groom in the UK to compare each policy against the next.

Would You Wear An Edible Wedding Dress?

Usually brides have the choice between taffeta or tulle, silk or satin or even chiffon or velvet when choosing the material from which their dream wedding dress should be created. Such a decision was taken out of the equation for bride Viktoriya Shtefano when her husband-to-be, pastry chef Valentyn Shtefano, chose to create her wedding dress out of flour, eggs, sugar and caramel!

The edible wedding dress was made of 1,500 cream puffs, weighed in at 20 pounds (9 kilograms) and took Valentyn two months to make for their wedding in August 2006. Click here to see a photo of it.

"At first, he sewed empty cream puffs together, but the dress collapsed. Then, he carefully attached the puffs to a wedding dress frame, and Viktoriya spent a couple hours each night before the wedding modeling the dress as Shtefano added more puffs."

By the end of the wedding reception, bride Viktoriya didn't want to take her unique wedding dress off, much less devour it. Her dress was accessorized with a matching crown, bouquet and necklace made from caramelized sugar!

According to www.examiner.com the 28-year-old Ukranian chef is renowned in his hometown Uzhhorod for his controversial yet delicious pastries and he is fast becoming a rising star.

"For many in Uzhhorod, cake was just something to eat, not something that can also be looked at and admired."

At least wearing an edible dress to your wedding solves the dilemma of how to store the dress after the wedding - simply pull it apart and enjoy!

How To Never Miss A Story On Wedaholic.com - And You Don't Even Have To Visit The WebSite!

In a perfect world every bride would add Wedaholic.com to her favourites and religiously check the site each and every morning! Only kidding, but it is very true to say that people only return to sites that they really value. In fact I can hardly wait until Windows Vista, the new Microsoft Platform goes mainstream. Why may you ask - how will this help Wedaholic.com?

Quite simply Windows Vista will incorporate a technology call RSS (Really Simple Syndication) - which as dull as it might sound is quite exciting! Currently I use a service call Bloglines.com that uses RSS to tell me whenever one of my favourite sites has new content, this way I can keep up to date with all the global wedding news on a daily basis. Anyone can subscribe to it and take advantage of this easy way to track any website they like, though in practice the majority of people don't know about it.

To directly quote from Microsoft :

"After finding interesting information, users are using RSS technologies to "subscribe" to the content, ensuring that the latest changes or updates to the content are delivered to them, instead of having to return to the site to check it again."

Take a look at the bubble in the image of my desktop to the left, this is telling me that there are 595 new stories for me to read. I don't have to visit each website, I simply click on the Bloglines icon to read the latest news. It's brilliant and saves me so much time.

Woburn Abbey Wedding Fair At The Sculpture Gallery

Whilst at the National Wedding Show I had the pleasure of meeting a number of exhibitors from Woburn in Bedfordshire. They were there to promote why Woburn is the perfect place to get married. I was quick to learn that there are a number of wonderful venues for a bride and groom to consider - from the elegance of the Sculpture Gallery to the unique setting of the Safari Lodge or the historic Inn at Woburn. It really was a fantastic opportunity to meet a team of people who offer everything you would need to make your day run smoothly and effortlessly, from the wedding cakes to wedding cars, photographers to fashion.

"This was a walk in... shop is very small, I would say intimate but dresses were nicely organized and seperated by designer. I showed her the picture of a dress by Alfred Angelo (which is a line she carries) and they didn't have it in stock. They had similar dresses or could order that one for me if I wanted to purchase it.
She let me look around... giving me the bride-to-be opportunity to talk about my wedding and ideas. She picked out a beautiful tea-length dress and said remember you have to try something on to truely see it's potential. I loved the dress and the whole experience. I would say this shop is for people who need a little help seeing her potential.

"Thirty To Wife" By Craig Michaels - The Must Read Groom's Guide To Weddings

Craig Michael’s new book “Thirty to Wife”, available from Amazon.com and Amazon.co.uk, was born from his very own experiences of getting married. He found he didn’t have many people to turn to for real, honest advice and your average wedding book was simply focused on lists and responsibilities. He was fed up with to do lists and magazines strategically left around the house and wanted to write a book that really went out of its way to educate and advise grooms.

The title “Thirty to Wife” is apt because Craig's book tells the story of the 30 days leading up to his wedding day. It is in effect a countdown where we take the ride along side him, every step of the way - experiencing the highs and the lows. It’s a clever title, though Craig can’t take credit for it as his wife Deb thought of it! Luckily he does deserve much applause for its content! In fact Deb's forward says:

If only CRAIG put a fraction of the effort into our wedding planning that he did writing this book.
If only.

And so the book begins:

From Day 30: Welcome to my world. Seatbelts not required, but strongly encouraged.

Never was I so sure of anything in this world. Buoyed by excessive alcohol, a ticking biological clock (guys get them too), and a natural urge to ensure survival of the fittest (vision impairments aside), I got down on one knee and asked Deb to marry me.
It wasn't the most romantic moment. Or the most graceful. But it was ours to cherish forever. Or at least a few days.

"No planning for two months. Guaranteed," Deb promised as she basked in the glow of her engagement ring.
We didn’t make it two hours.
"Who are your groomsmen?"
"What food should we serve?"
"Where should we honeymoon?"
"When will we register?"
Why, oh why did I start us down this path?

I found “Thirty to Wife” to be all together more superior than anything else I have read in the groom/wedding book category. At the heart of this book is a humorous, real life and in depth pre-wedding narrative that makes it such a joy to read. Through all 263 pages you hear Craig’s voice, providing comfort, guidance and real world experiences that both sexes can relate to. In addition this book packs a massive punch with many comprehensive lists of what every groom needs to know, from proposing to the wedding day.

I loved the way you can follow a really engaging wedding story, yet pick up many useful tips and advice along the way. If you’re a bride you may wonder whether this account of a thirty-something man’s last 30 bachelor days is for you? I have to admit I had the same question. Yes “Thirty to Wife” is groom oriented but nevertheless it is definitely bride friendly. I can see women using this book to assist men in being the grooms they dreamt of marrying and get their favourite “so what are you really thinking” question answered without having to ask their mates!

Equally men will use the book to learn that they’re not alone in their struggle with the pressures and joys of being engaged. Ultimately when you have a book full of love, excitement and humour, told through personal experiences you have a winner for both men and women.

Craig clearly tells grooms:

“Don’t just ‘get through’ your wedding. Help out. Share in the good and bad of planning your big day. It’s something that you’re going to remember for the rest of your life. And something your bride will remind you of for the rest of your life. I looked back and realised I missed out on much of the action. And while my wedding turned out to be an amazing affair, I’ll always know that I put too much of the burden on my better half”

I really wish this book was around when I got married – not that my husband didn’t help with the planning, but more to increase his knowledge of what is involved. I know a story like this is so much better than asking a groom to read through lists of dos and don’ts. Everyone loves a good fun story!

Times have certainly changed. Years ago, the groom’s role was much more about showing up and worrying about life after marriage. It was unusual for grooms to be purposely excluded from planning altogether, as weddings were strictly the domain of the bride and her mother!

Lets face it more couples are planning their weddings as a team and if this is the case for you, you will definitely need a guidebook. You may think all the bridal magazines you have laying around your house constitute the necessary foundation to plan the perfect wedding, but for a groom this couldn’t be further from the truth. They need a manual / novel / lads magazine that informs them, yet makes them laugh. This is where Craig has excelled by creating the right mix to relay everything a groom needs to know without boring him. He saw the opportunity to write something truly unique and educate grooms on what to expect from engagement to his wedding day. I can’t recommend “Thirty to Wife” highly enough, though I’m not the only one!

The Autumn National Wedding Show 2006 Review

Hopefully many of you were able to visit the National Wedding Show at Earls Court last week. I thoroughly enjoyed my time on the Friday and if you did happen to miss it I thoroughly recommend the next one on 13th to 15th October at the Birmingham NEC. You can book your tickets here.

The bridal collections displayed on the catwalk were certainly mesmerising with a breathtaking choice of bridalwear, groomswear and outfits for the wedding party. The catwalk included a dazzling selection of wedding dresses, from top designers who create gowns for celebrity clientele to high street fashion brands, covering all budgets and tastes.

Dresses in the first catwalk scene, entitled Cinderella's Footprints, opened the show with plenty of glamour from designers Chandrika Thomas, Raishma Couture and Marion Thomas whose dresses showed off strong lines and structure to flatter the bride's curves.

It was true to say a plethora of colour dominated the catwalk with eye-catching lilac groomswear from Marc Wallace. There were plenty of dresses in different shades of blues as well as pastel pink and peach seen in the collections displayed by It Fits Bridal, Wizard of Gos, Fiorisimo Bridal & Couture and a stunning purple dress from Mamfi Brides.

Catwalk exhibitor, Sarah Arnett, designer for Simultane, who created dresses for leading British model Erin O'Connor, wowed visitors during scene three with her chic gowns, which evoked a feeling of couture style and Grecian swathing with empire lines.

Berketex Bride presented the OK! Exclusives collection designed by David Emanuel showcasing simple, traditional yet spectacular wedding dresses including a flirtatious shorter length dress. In complete contrast, brides wore black in scene four, with designers such as Marion Thomas, Rivilino Bride and Malcolm Hall showing off their most unique and unusual creations.

For bridesmaids dress ideas, everyone was inspired by the adorable and colourful frocks worn by the catwalk show's littlest models as Nicki Macfarlane Bridesmaids and Nene.D displayed their exquisite designs in a range of vibrant, sumptuous silks and fabrics.

It wasn't just all about brides, as there were plenty of ideas for grooms - Moss Bros Hire, Anthony Formalwear and Couture Pour Homme provided inspiration for groomswear and pageboy outfits.

Asian inspiration prevailed in the finale with a large variety of richly embroidered dresses from designers Merchants of India (Izzy Izaiah) and Seasons Asian Designer Wear. The Asian theme was completed with the ethnic groomswear available from Debenhams.

All in all it was a fantastic show and I look forward to the next one!

How to Buy Everything for Your Wedding on eBay and Save a Fortune

Do you believe it is possible to buy everything for your wedding from eBay?

Well according to a book called “"How to Buy Everything for Your Wedding on eBay... and Save a Fortune! at Amazon.com" and Amazon.co.uk written by Dennis L. Prince, and newlyweds Sarah Manongdo and Dan Joya this is definitely possible. You only have to look at table 3-1 on page 52 to see conclusive proof of how Sarah and Dan (pictured below) made a grand saving of 79.8% off retail prices. To be exact they spent $1335.42 (including $285.33 for shipping) on eBay, a saving of $5282.58 compared to retail prices. More importantly they aren’t the only ones making huge saving on their weddings, as verified by the list of eBay bride success stories displayed on page 50. For those couples on a budget (and lets face it, who isn't!), reading this book will definitely save you money.

You may remember that I recently mentioned this great book in an article called "Brand New Wedding Dresses Up For Grabs On eBay", which includes my top ten tips for buying a new wedding dress from eBay’s online wedding store at a discount price. I went onto outline how the book teaches you strategies for searching for and bidding for wedding items on eBay, how to resell items after the wedding and advice from 60 plus eBay wedding Power Sellers on how to bag the best wedding bargains on eBay. Following a second reading, I would now like to express even further why this is definitely a must read.

"How to Buy Everything for Your Wedding on eBay and Save a Fortune" doesn’t just stop at how to make savings on your big day, you can also discover such secrets as how to plan a fabulous honeymoon within your means. I was fascinated to read the 14 money saving tips for booking the honeymoon of your dreams on pages 34 – 36. In addition it also carefully explains how you can supplement your wedding registry through eBay after your wedding day and how couples can consolidate joint belongings and sell the rest on eBay. I also loved reading how to deal with duplicate gifts and understanding the etiquette of auctioning unneeded wedding gifts.

Starting to save a fortune

The book begins by running through the basics of planning a wedding and in particular there is one of the most comprehensive wedding calendars I have seen on pages 15 to 18. Key sections include “Setting a wedding budget and sticking to it” on page 19 and “Planning a beautiful ceremony on a budget” on page 21. The latter gives easy tips on how to decrease your ceremony expenses, including ceremony site fees, officiant fees / donations to the church, the fee for ceremony musicians, ceremony decorations and flowers, personal flowers, ceremony programs, photography, videography and transportation.

Planning your reception without breaking the bank

The reception is a large percentage of any couple’s budget and therefore the section named “Planning an elegant reception without breaking the bank” is thoroughly recommended. This is broken down into the specific pros and of hotels, country clubs, church hall, cathedral, your home, public parks, restaurant and definitely worth a read!

Learning from the eBay power sellers

Everyone wants to get the best value for your wedding dollar and for this I recommend you take time reading the chapter titled “The eBay Approach to an Affordably Elegant Wedding: Lessons from the Power Sellers". This is an excellent read where eBay wedding sellers offer specific advice to brides on wedding gowns, veils, jewelry, flowers, and honeymoons.

The pros and cons of shopping online

Sarah and Dan clearly show us that shopping online isn't a bed of roses, there are of course ups and downs to buying wedding goods online. The authors allow you to weigh up the benefits, there are 10 listed on page 54 and 5 tips on the cons of online shopping on page 56.

At over 230 pages and 15 chapters there are so many sections in this book that offer real money saving advice. Unfortuantely I can't list them all here! I have though made a small list of pages I loved reading and return to often and I'm sure you will too - just to whet your appetite!

London Designer Wedding Dress Sale - Up To 70% Off!

The dresses on sale are a mixture of window dresses, fashion show samples, end of line gowns, one off prototypes and shop samples. Gowns will range from size 8 to 18, however the gowns will mirror UK sales trends with the majority being 12 to 16. Unfortunately this is just a bridal gown sale and there will be no opportunity for bridesmaids to try on bridesmaids gowns as well.

If you are looking to buy a gown then this is an excellent place to choose from a huge selection. Though the organisers state that if you are only hoping to browse and look for ideas, this really isn't for you and it is recommended you go to a department store or local boutique . It may seem harsh but I guess they only have so many staff and they are really looking to help brides that have a clear idea of what they are looking for.

How does the sale work?

Firstly you will be measured and advised of the appropriate size of gown you should look for. You are then free to browse and select gowns to try on. You will be helped by a trained bridal wear consultant who will help you find the right style of gown for you. An alterations service will be available for all brides.

Sadly if you see a gown you like, you won't be able to come back and try it again. All of the sale gowns will be leaving the hotel at the end of the sale and not returning.

I wish I had known about them when I planned my wedding as it was loosely based on a golf theme but unfortunately we did not think of carrying this through to the seating plan and table names.

Once you have chosen a table plan design all you have to do is provide the design team with the table layouts and wedding guests’ names typed in word or excel format and they create the table planner for you.

Prices for the table plans start at £395. Whilst this might seem like quite a princely sum for a table plan, do bear in mind that these table plans look like pieces of artwork and would definitely look fantastic adorning a wall in your house after your wedding as a lasting keepsake of your special day. I would like to recommend "The Alternative Wedding List", an online wedding list service with a difference!

Using this list, couples sign up to gifts of donations to various charities - instead of the usual toasters and kettles! There are no charges to couples for registering a list. Take a look at this page for an example of how your wedding gift list could look.

♥ To register online and select one of the groups of charities that we've put together.

♥ Send their guests details of where their list is held.

♥ To logon to their list to view purchases and messages from guests, download details onto a PDF at any time and then receive final confirmation of total donations to each charity.

It really couldn't be easier!

The Alternative Wedding List is part of Give It Limited, a non-profit making set-up founded by Andy Hickey. Their main goal is to generate incremental charitable donations for a broad group of UK registered charities. It is important to remember that:

♥ They pass on 100% of the value of donations made through the service to the charities.

♥ They use the Gift Aid (an extra 28% of the value of eligible donations) to fund the operation (website, card processing, management, advertising) and the target is to use less than half of this money. Whatever's left also gets passed onto the charities.

♥ There are no upfront fees or other charges for the charities.

Wedaholic.com Celebrates One Year Anniversary

Wedaholic.com is one year old today!

Within this past year I have met many other bloggers, brides, grooms and wedding suppliers - it has truly been a fantastic time.

One of the highlights was attending the National Wedding Show last Friday and finally meeting people I had only ever conversed with online. In addition I was able to introduce myself to other wedding exhibitors and tell them about Wedaholic.com

All in all it has been a very successful first year and I'm really looking forward to the second year. As ever I will be putting a lot of time into Wedaholic.com, though a fair amount of time is being spent on a new wedding planning book I am currently writing! More of that later - when I finish it!
